16th Street

16th Street Whiskey

The 16th Street Whiskey branding concept is inspired by my favorite of all the 446 bridges in Pittsburgh—the Sixteenth Street Bridge. Built in 1923, each end features two pillars with bronze Armillary Spheres (globe sculptures), positioned like portals from one shore to the other.

A fun fact about this bridge: traveling from the north side, you would notice the vibrant green oxidized sculptures, while on the opposite side they are a dull brown. In the 1970’s during a movement to preserve and restore public art, crews misunderstood the oxidation as a sign of deterioration and covered with a brown laquor. Their mistake was luckily pointed out before making it to the other side, but the irreversible and innocent error marks the bridge as being even more unique.
